Good News from the Project Phoenix Team…!

January 22, 2018

Happy New Year to you all……good news to report!

The CRGT and the Project Phoenix team were delighted to receive a very large cheque (in every sense!) from the Branch Manager of our local Co-op supermarket in Claygate who, through there fantastic ‘Community Matters’ scheme, raised £2882.17 for the Claygate Community Clubhouse. The cheque was gratefully received by Trustees Cllr Kim Cross and Heather Moors, and this funding will be put to very good use when the Pavilion re-build commences later this year.

We would like to thank the Co-op for choosing us as one of their 3 causes and for their support, and of course the continued support of the local community. It matters a great deal to us.

You may recall that in November last year, we were selected as finalist in the AVIVA community fund. We will find out if we have been successful on 16th January, so fingers crossed.

We’ll provide further information on where we are with the Clubhouse rebuild in our next newsletter.

The CRGT would also like to take this opportunity to thank Claygate Parish Council for their generous Grant of £575 towards a new high quality wooden bin for the recreation ground. Over recent years a number of our metal bins have reached the end of their life and we have steadily been replacing them with the new wooden bins that you may have already seen on the Recreation Ground. These sturdy wooden bins will last longer than their predecessors and we feel they are more in keeping with the natural environment. We hope you agree?

Keeping the Recreation ground in good shape throughout the year is a tough job given that the grounds are used/visited more than 20,000 times a year for sport, leisure and recreation purposes, and with a budget that has not increased for many years. The CRGT is therefore reliant on the generosity of the community and local organisations, and for that we are very grateful. It is the CRGTs objective to provide the best possible facilities for our community.
